DAZZLE SHIP
MARFA TX 2017
Inspired by the dazzle ships of WWI, this geodesic party dome was created as an installation at the Transpecos Festival in Marfa, Texas. In traditional design, the dazzle ship’s geometric shapes created an optical illusion, providing a camouflage that allowed ships to hide in plain sight, undetectable by the enemy. Our zig-zagged cupola also acted as a gay hidey hole- a safe haven to visitors who could lie on sheets of lace and flowers and watch projected videos Turkish oil wrestling, blooming pansies, and miniature food cooking. It eventually washed away in a flash flood. Or did it just return to the sea?
